Where I started my journey and why.
Take a look at my 2022 and why I decided to travel.
So, here we are! Thanks for looking at my blog, I hope you stick around.
This blog is to show you where I started my 2022 and why I decided to start my travelling journey. Let‘s get stuck in shall we?
At the end of 2021, at the age of 19, I changed my name. The waiting for my passport and drivers license was awful and I could not wait to embark on many adventures as the new and free version of myself. Travel has always been my greatest love affair, but to start again with a positive and liberated mindset is one hell of a feeling. But where would I start, what would I do first?
Spain of course! I’d been going to Spain since I was two or three years old. Doctors had recommended regular holidays to warm countries to help relax my muscles that were tight and stiff from my newly diagnosed cerebral palsy.
I wanted to give back to the community...
On the 15th of January, I boarded a plane solo for the first time and headed to Alicante, Spain. I then spent 7 weeks volunteering at a dog and cat rescue centre called Paws Patas in Los Gallardos.
I started in quarantine but found the constant clothes changing a nightmare, so I had a role change and was put in charge of looking after and socialising three young dogs who had been seriously traumatised before being dumped at the shelter.
In the space of 6 weeks, these three dogs had made such an improvement! From cowering away from humans, two out of three brothers had started to love being petted. Maine, pictured above, became my best friend and loved all the attention. Ohio was still cautious but definately liked how it felt to be stroked. Texas…… poor baby. Texas was the most terrified out of the three and no one could leash him or stroke him. But! On my last night, I sat with my boys and Texas came to me for strokes!!! I was SO happy I cried! Maine was adopted shortly after I left but the other two boys unfortunately have not. Ohio. Texas.
Why did I start travelling?
I have always loved going on holidays. I finished college in 2021 and had a highly flexible job which allowed me to work from my laptop 90% of the time and therefore I decided to use my new found freedom and travel.
I am not naive. I know that the world is dying and not enough people are changing that fact. So I decided that the time for travel is now. I want to see natural sights before they are ruined by global warming, I want to see beautiful landscapes before pollution and building kills them. I want to experience the world before it is too late.
So come with me on this journey where I can report back to you about the world I see. Is this accommodation accessible? Is this activity disability friendly?
Hope to see you hear soon
~ Lauren
